“Mpira” (working title) is a documentary film by Nisha Ligon currently in production in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The film will follow a summer in the life of the Twiga Stars, the Tanzanian women’s national football (i.e. soccer) team: team selection, intensive training camps, and finally their trip across the continent to Nigeria to meet the toughest competition they’ve ever faced! An energetic and intimate portrait of talented and passionate young women trying to make it as footballers in one of the world’s poorest countries.
