This is my policy paper written for the seminar on Biotechnology and Sustainable Development at the
Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies,
taught by professor
Calestous Juma.
It first reviews the current literature concerning the media's influence on public perceptions
of technology, then looks in-depth at the specific case of the media-driven public outcry
against Bt-corn and its possible effects on monarch butterfly larvae. Finally, I make suggestions
on new approaches for media coverage of biotech in the developing world.
